Outline

General Test-Taking Techniques

You may have heard that you can't study for the GRE. But that's not true! There are many things you can do to prepare for the GRE, and the more time you spend preparing the better your scores will be. This lesson tells you everything you need to know about the general makeup of the GRE, so you know what to expect come test day.

Overview of GRE Quantitative Questions

You've seen traditional multiple-choice questions before, but have you experienced quantitative comparisons or math questions that can have more than one correct answer? Don't worry; this lesson introduces you to all types of GRE math questions, so you will know exactly what's in store.

Review of Basic Math

You learned arithmetic in grade school, but you may have forgotten some of the basics that you will see in the GRE math sections. You will review the essentials such as multiplication and division, and clarify concepts that might be a little fuzzy, like exponents and fractions.

Algebra Review

Review all the pertinent standard algebra concepts you may not remember from high school, such as variables, factoring, and functions, so that you will know exactly how to answer algebra-related GRE questions.

Review of Functions and Coordinate Geometry

This lesson continues your math review with a discussion about coordinate geometry. You will look at the basics, such as intercepts and slope, then you will explore functions and how to graph them on the coordinate plane.

Review of Plane Geometry

Because geometry is another component of the GRE math questions, you will review the most tested concepts in this lesson. Rediscover the properties of angles, triangles, squares, circles, and other shapes so that you can answer questions that ask for those pesky measurements for lines, curves, and angles.

Statistics and Sets Review

You don't have to take a statistics class to master the concepts for the GRE. Most statistics, probability, and other less-familiar math questions on the test are fairly basic. In this lesson, you will learn how to prepare for them all, including tendency, frequency, and probability.

Answering Quantitative Comparison Questions

Now you will apply the math concepts you reviewed to a brand-new question type: GRE Quantitative Comparison Questions. These questions present two values with three answer options: determine which is greater, equal, or the question doesn't provide enough information to decide.

Answering Data Interpretation Questions

The GRE quantitative reasoning sections will likely include a group of data interpretation questions. These questions aren't too difficult if you're prepared for them and preparing for them is what this lesson is all about!

Answering Standard Math Questions

The majority of GRE math questions aren't data comparisons or data interpretations. They're the standard math questions you're used to solving: equations, values, and word problems. In this lesson, you will practice using the tools you will need to work through these problems quickly.

Quantitative Reasoning Practice – Part 1

Practice makes perfect, and this lesson will provide you ample opportunity to reach perfection! By analyzing a practice quantitative reasoning section, you will solidify your approach to GRE math questions.

Quantitative Reasoning Practice – Part 2

The final lesson continues the dissection of a sample GRE quantitative reasoning section. You will focus on how to answer the variety of question formats for standard math questions and practice analyzing data in graphs and charts.
